BACKLINKS ARE STILL SUPER IMPORTANT

Backlinks had been rumoured to be less important now than a few years back but Matt Cutts has confirmed that they are still as important as ever. Google confirmed that they have internally carried out an experiment where backlinks were disregarded but the results were actually less relevant!

LEGO MOVIE: HACKING CAN STILL GET YOU TOP RANKS

The war against spam rolls on and somehow some website has managed to rank top of Google news for a free download of the new Lego movie. Of course the site is full of CPA offers and actually doesn't give you the download link but how has this happened? Early indications point to a hack on Call & Post, the site hosting the content but this hasn't been confirmed.

BING TAKES ACTION AGAINST BAD SPELLING & GRAMMAR

WEBMEUP OPENS UP BACKLINK ANALYSIS TO THE MASSES

WebMeUp is a new backlink anaylsis tool and although they claim to have something that's original and new (haven't they heard of ahrefs and majesticseo?) this should be kept a close eye on as it could end up being an important tool to all SEOs.

HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY PANDA

This week the SEO community wished Happy 3rd Birthday to Panda, a very different kind of panda than can be found in many Zoo's, the algorithm update that changed the industry for some and set about devaluing low quality content. Three years on and 25 refreshes later, Google have stopped confirming updates but the black and white cuddly create still haunts some SEO's.

WHATSAPP IS FACEBOOKS TICKET TO ITS NEXT BILLION USERS

Facebook today announced its $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp. Obviously WhatsApp has a lot to cheer about, having grown to 450 million active users over the course of the last five years. But from a pure venture perspective, the purchase represents another huge win for Sequoia Capital and partner Jim Goetz.
