A day in the life of a… Senior Paid Media Analyst

A Day In The Life Of

Name: Maja Sorensen

So, what do you do?

I market my client's products online on Google AdWords, Bing and social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Every month I'm assigned an online marketing budget and it's my job to get the best sales performance out of that budget. I do this by constantly checking what's performing best, optimising campaigns and reallocating budgets.

What's on the agenda for today?

09h00: I usually start my day with a strong cup of coffee!

11h00: By now I will have looked at my client's accounts to see if there have been any changes in performance that I need to know about and possibly action. At 11h30, I have a client call during which I'll give an update on weekly performance and what I'm currently working on to improve sales and revenue.

12h00: I'm preparing slides for a client meeting next week. The slides will update the client on performance and any new tests and channels that we would like to introduce.

13h00: Having lunch with the rest of the department and catching up on people's plans for the weekend!

14h00: After lunch, I'm setting up and implementing a new test on one of my accounts.

16h00: My client has just emailed me about a new promotion they're running next week, so I'll start writing ad copies to support the promotion and send it to the client tomorrow for approval.

17h00: It's my colleague's birthday today so we're going to be celebrating with cake, bubbles and lots of 'happy birthday' singing.

What's the best thing about your job?

There's a great atmosphere at Greenlight; everyone knows each other and we're like a family - we all enjoy working together, eating lunch together and having drinks together after work. This makes such a difference day-to-day, it's so rewarding to work with people you can call friends.

I enjoy working within paid search and paid social because you can easily measure performance compared to other marketing channels, so it's a good feeling when you know you've created a great campaign and are smashing your targets. Also, working in an industry that's constantly evolving is great; it means that nearly every two weeks there are new features you can test - this makes the job challenging, rewarding and, more importantly, it never gets boring!

What's for lunch?

Today I'm having a salad... and a Double Decker for dessert!

How did you get started in digital marketing?

After graduating from Copenhagen Business School, I had two jobs in Denmark working as a project manager before deciding it was time for a change of scenery. I was interested in getting experience in online marketing, so my friend suggested to look for jobs as a Paid Media Executive in London. Just over two years later, I'm now a Senior Paid Media Analyst with loads of experience across multiple clients and industries.

Plans this evening?

Tonight, I'm going to have a nice, quiet dinner with my boyfriend at a restaurant just down the road from the office - after having gone out with work several nights this week, it's time to relax!

What's your proudest moment since you joined?

Since I joined two and a half years ago, I've had several proud moments at Greenlight. Mentoring new grads and seeing them go from knowing just about nothing on paid search to managing their own accounts and contributing to client meetings has been a great experience, they're truly gone from strength to strength. Also, getting positive feedback from my clients with regards to great performance and my help in growing their business is also something that makes me very proud.
