Is it worth bidding on generics?

The fact is your generic keywords will always be more expensive than your brand terms, as the space will always be more competitive with so many brands and resellers vying for the same audience. Unless your PPC strategy is heavily brand focussed, one would also expect there to be significantly more generic keywords then brand terms within the account.

The latest figures from the Office of National Statistics show that every household in the UK has £430 less to spend today than they did in 2010, as household disposable income fell by 1.2 % last year, the biggest annual fall in spending power since 1977. However, going by Greenlight's latest research, it seems this has not stifled UK consumer appetite for entertainment which would seem to have taken a thrifty, some might even say active and cultured route too.

Greenlight Research - UK: Holiday searches up 42% with North America making the greatest gains

Searches for holidays online in January were up a massive 42% on November 2011 levels, according to the latest quarterly research from Greenlight covering consumer search behaviour in the holiday sector. This may in part, perhaps, have been driven by savvy consumers looking to book holidays early and additionally pre-empting last week’s budget announcement in which Chancellor George Osborne confirmed the double inflationary increase in Air Passenger Duty (APD) to all destinations commencing 1 April 2012.
