Airports are braced for the Easter holiday rush as folk head home or take a flight of fancy elsewhere. More than 370,000 passengers are expected to leave Heathrow Airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday, and 200,000 will pass through Gatwick – all of which surely bodes well for the hotel trade. In fact, Greenlight's latest independent research covering the hotel sector, found that in January, the number of hotel-related searches made online by UK searchers totalled 2 million. Interestingly however, the majority of their hotel queries pertained to the UK.

The Internet has brought on a new way of shopping where potential customers can search online for information, reviews and social media signals. It has opened up a whole new realm of research to consider before making the purchase. The average shopper now consults 10 sources of information, up from 5 in 2010, prior to buying a product. ZMOT is that moment when they take up a laptop or smartphone and start looking up that item to learn more about it before the purchase.

UK consumers made close to 2 million searches for insurance products online and queries for car insurance were the most popular. This is according to Greenlight's latest report, 'Insurance Sector Report - Issue 11', which profiled consumer search behaviour on Google UK for home, travel and car insurance products in January.
