2014 is the year of Authorship but it is going to fly right by most companies when it comes to their investing in it to maximise their visibility online and maintain top rankings on Google. Today, the new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), the thousands of new domain extensions such as “.photography”, “.london” etc., that will be flooding into the market over the next few months, took a step forward and entered a new phase where they are open to applications from anyone. In Greenlight's view gTLDs open up the possibility of the TLD becoming an important ranking factor in the future, particularly for the truly “generic” gTLDs (i.e. not brand gTLDs).

There were three times as many online searches for Lifestyle & Boutique hotels in the UK than there were for those located in short-haul and long-haul destinations combined, reveals the latest analysis of specialist hotels search data from Greenlight.

Google has announced news of what has been a silent shift to a new search algorithm, Hummingbird, the the biggest overhaul to its search engine since “Caffeine” in 2009, affecting 90% of searches. However, whilst Hummingbird will have clear implications for SEO, it is its Panda and Penguin updates – not Hummingbird, that will be the major cause of ranking fluctuations for the foreseeable future.

A fully Integrated digital search strategy is a difficult thing to achieve but is a must for all digital marketers in a competitive multi-channel and multi-device marketplace. The siloed approach needs to change and needs to be driven from the top. C-level employees need to realise that to deliver an integrated strategy, all departments need to be aligned to work towards the business’s goals. To really embrace it, a business needs to be ambitious and courageous.
