‘Last minute holidays’ make up almost 3% of consumer online searches for a break

Greenlight's latest quarterly holiday search data reveals the term ‘last minute holidays’ accounted for almost 3% of a total of 4.4 million searches made on Google UK for holidays, in May. The findings come on the back of news reports that travel firms have seen last-minute bookings for summer holidays drop due to the hot weather, with some tour operators saying they might be forced to discount packages if the heatwave continues for another week. Others have speculated the weather could have the same impact on the industry as that of the 2010 ash cloud.

Cruises: Brands account for 61% of online searches for cruise holidays

UK consumers made 1.7 million searches online for cruise holidays in May, reveals Greenlight's new “Cruise Sector Report – Issue 1”. The negative publicity suffered by the sector following on from a succession of incidents – from the Costa Concordia disaster, the engine room fire on the Carnival Triumph to the Carnival Legend’s propulsion failure, has seemingly done little to deter holiday makers from considering cruise vacations.

Greenlight adds new Industry verticals to research portfolio and incorporates Mobile search insights

Greenlight is expanding its current research portfolio, adding eight new industries to the five it currently covers. This sees the number of sectors covered by Greenlight’s free quarterly reports grow from fifteen to twenty-three. Additionally, new to all the reports is the inclusion of mobile search data.

Web searches for popular holiday terms and destinations suffer significant drop

As the Easter getaway approaches, some tour operators in the UK are reporting an impromptu boom in holiday bookings to warmer destinations including the Mediterranean, triggered by March’s extreme weather. Not a minute too soon, as quarterly data from Greenlight, ‘Holidays – Issue 16’, which profiles consumer search behaviour in this vertical, found that in February, a key selling period for the travel sector, UK consumer online searches for holidays totalled 1.2 million, down significantly on November’s 2.9 million
